This joint programme between the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick and the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics, NUIG has been developed to meet ongoing up-skilling and re-training needs of specific sectors of the regional economy (business, financial services, ICT etc.) while also building upon both Universities' complementary teaching strengths and areas of expertise.

Objectives
This MSc programme is designed to develop, build and enhance finance and ICT capabilities and skills for people working in private and public sector contexts:

While covering key future skills needs, the programme provides students with an opportunity to update, build and improve key strengths and capabilities, redirect their careers and/or consider how they can create their own employment or develop new routes to employment.

The programme aims to provide essential ICT technical skills, but equally aims to deliver the financial management skills and financial decision-making acumen - critical for employees in ICT, International Financial Services, Medical/Biopharma sectors and core to the success of Ireland's economic future.

The MSc in Finance & Information Systems is a full-time programme delivered over one academic year, beginning in September. Modules for Semester 1 are delivered at the University of Limerick. Students will attend the National University of Ireland, Galway for Semester 2 modules. Students complete the programme between May and August by completing either a grouped project at NUI Galway or a research dissertation at the University of Limerick.

Programme Content

Autumn Semester (University of Limerick)

Financial Information Analysis, International Corporate Finance, Research Methods in Finance, Implementing Market Models plus one elective module from the following:
Derivative Instruments, Wealth & Portfolio Management, Dynamic Asset Pricing Theory

Spring Semester (NUI Galway)

Information Systems Management, Enterprise Systems, Decision Systems & Business Analytics, Seminar in Finance & Information Systems plus 10 ECTS credits from a list of four optional modules.

Summer Semester

Project (NUI Galway) or Research Dissertation (KBS, University of Limerick)

This programme is aimed at highly numerate business graduates from Ireland and abroad with a specialisation in Economics and/or Finance. Minimum entry requirements include a primary degree (NQF Level 8) at Second Class Honours standard or equivalent. Applicants should have prior taught exposure to basic information systems or demonstrate competency in this area. An interview may form part of the application process.In the case of international applicants, the overseas equivalent as determined by the Course Team in consultation with UL Graduate School Admissions. Where candidates are non-native English language speakers, certified demonstrable achievement in TOEFL and/or IELTS will be required. On a case-by-case basis, the admissions process may deem an applicant's level of English satisfactory and may thus waive this general requirmement.Applicants who do not hold a Level 8 qualification but who hold professional qualificatins and/or have relevant practical experience are eligible to apply for the programme in accordance with guidelines on the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
