The successful PhD candidate will work with a suite of existing in-house developed electronic systems including a custom designed Ultrasound Array Research Platform (UARP) system. The UARP is a state of the art programmable imaging system, which incorporates an array of high speed ADCs and Altera FPGAs for a variety of imaging modalities. The successful candidate will further develop hardware and firmware to integrate this ultrasound imaging system with a fibre coupled pulsed laser system. The final aim would be to develop a pre-clinical prototype for cancer imaging and therapy. Available to start immediately and no later than 1st April 2015.

Contents

We have an exciting opportunity to undertake an EPSRC studentship within the Ultrasound and Instrumentation Research Group at the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. Based at the University of Leeds, the successful student would have the opportunity to work with a team of multidisciplinary researchers researching ultrasonic systems for the identification and treatment of cancerous tissue, with a specific focus on breast cancer, although the broader technique would have application to other surgical areas.
