Gender and WomenпПХs Studies students discover the historical, cultural, institutional, global and local dimensions of gender and its intersections with ethnicity and class. You will be encouraged to expose, challenge and rewrite prevailing notions about women and men. You will have the opportunity to debate gender in politics, religion, literature and philosophy. Students engage in lively dialogues about topics such as the wage gap between women and men, global labour markets, feminist activisms, abortion, pornography, men and masculinities, violence, body image and the media and motherhood. You will explore how traditional and contemporary perceptions of gender influence current generations of women and men and how to imagine alternative modes of being. The program is interdisciplinary пПР drawing on courses and disciplines across the Faculty of Arts and beyond. This interdisciplinary focus fosters genuine breadth of knowledge among our students. The program is also enriched by the Margaret Laurence Endowment Fund which provides funding for scholarships, visiting speakers, library resources, and grants to local feminist and womenпПХs resource organizations. This program includes a practicum course where students gain valuable hands-on experience within local organizations.
