Description
Industrial Engineers are concerned with the design, implementation, and improvement of integrated systems of people, materials, equipment and energy. A major distinction between industrial engineering and other branches of engineering is that the industrial engineer must consider not only the action of machines that are governed by physical laws but also the behavior of people in organizations. Industrial engineering is often called the people-oriented engineering discipline, and its applications are widely expected in industrial, manufacturing, service, commercial and governmental activities. The demand for industrial engineers has remained strong over the past decade. This trend is expected to continue in the 2000s and beyond. Since industrial engineering is the only engineering discipline with a significant training in business management, it has traditionally been a route to upper management in TURKEY as well as international businesses.
Our department has currently four faculty members and still growing to have more in near future. Many faculty members have deep experience of working private sectors. Our students enjoy the personal attention of faculty. Our major areas of research include: manufacturing simulation, fuzzy logic, multiple-criteria decision making, operations research, supply chain management and logistics. Starting in September 2003, the Department of Industrial Engineering embarked on a very ambitious plan, to totally renovate all of its facilities and to completely replace all of the equipment, computer hardware and software in its teaching laboratories.
