The internationally oriented Master's programme in Biofabrication is interdisciplinary in nature, representing an engineering curriculum at the intersection of technology, chemistry, material sciences, biology, and medicine. Educational organisation

The Master's programme in Biofabrication is generally organised in two parts, i.e., a general part and a specialisation part. In the first year of study, the modules of the main topics Engineering Science, Material Sciences and the Natural Sciences, and Transferable Skills are scheduled. In the second year of study, the Advanced Modules as well as the Master's thesis are scheduled.
The course types include lectures, seminars, and practical lab work. The courses of the main topic Engineering Science are held in winter semester, while the courses of the main topic Material Sciences and the Natural Sciences are held in summer semester. The courses of the Transferable Skills and Advanced Modules are held in winter and summer semester, depending on the respective module and course.
A detailed study plan is provided for an overview of all courses within the programme.

Study abroad unit(s)

The programme offers the opportunity to spend an International Advanced Module as third semester for a study research project at an international partner university in Australia, Thailand, France, the United States, the Netherlands, or Spain.

Course objectives

The objective of the Master's programme in Biofabrication is to introduce you to interdisciplinary research topics and train you for a demanding, ethically responsible career as an engineer at the intersection of medicine and technology. The skills addressed in the study programme enable a smooth transition to further postgraduate studies or a demanding scientific or industrial career in R&D.

Language requirements

Participants have to demonstrate evidence of a B2 level English language certificate, according to the Common European Framework. The German language level should be at the A1 level.

Academic requirements

A university degree (or completed studies) in the Bachelor's programmes (requiring 180 ECTS points) Materials Science & Engineering or Engineering Science at the University of Bayreuth or an equivalent degree.

Social fee: approx. 65 EUR per semester

Approx. 750 EUR per month to cover personal expenses

Due to the intensive nature of the programme, students will have only limited time for part-time jobs.
