The university was founded as an agricultural training and research institution in 1818. Today, the University of Hohenheim is one of the key institutions in agricultural sciences and has an international reputation. Currently, about 9,900 students are enrolled in the three faculties (Natural Sciences, Agriculture, Economics) at the University of Hohenheim. The campus is located on the grounds of the former Hohenheim palace, which was built between 1771 and 1793 by the Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg for his wife, Franziska of Hohenheim. The mixture of historical and modern buildings and the beautiful botanical garden offer a pleasant atmosphere for studying. All campus facilities are within walking distance, which makes everyday life at the university easy and enables foreign students to settle in quickly. The university has excellent public transport connections.
international students German language courses for beginners and advanced learners are offered during the semester. Students can participate in ten introductory days with trips and presentations to get to know the university facilities and local surroundings. "Warm-up seminars" (intercultural seminar, facts and skills seminar) are offered before the start of the programme. Upon request, a personal mentor from the teaching staff can advise students on appropriate study profiles as well as support students in planning their studies in a smooth and goal-oriented way.
