A broad theoretical basis with profound subject-specific specialisation enables students to identify current boundaries of knowledge and to overcome them with state-of-the-art methodological approaches. This requires a confrontation with unanswered issues and the inclusion of students in research projects. Thus, teaching will not be limited to conventional topics, but will instead encourage self-responsibility and independent structuring of the gathering and processing of subject matter. For experimental work or the development of computer-based methods, research infrastructure such as IT, labs and test rigs are available.
Educational organisationElectrical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, Germany
The Engineering part of the programme will be conducted by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at RWTH Aachen University. This faculty sees its foremost mission in training highly qualified and responsible engineers in the broad field of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Engineering for future leading positions in industry and society. The faculty holds a leading position in teaching and research in these fields, nationally as well as internationally. The excellence of the faculty results from the close relationship between teaching and research, a good balance between a fundamental scientific approach and important industrial applications, and intensive cooperations within RWTH Aachen University, within the Jülich-Aachen-Research Alliance (JARA), and with associated institutes and external research partners.
Management at Maastricht School of Management (MSM) Netherlands
Maastricht School of Management contributes the business-related component to this programme. Students will be trained as globally oriented managers with solid knowledge of the core management processes and with an understanding of the major social and environmental issues that set the scene for business processes in emerging economies. Throughout the programme, students will be challenged to explore feasible innovations that balance business and development perspectives.

Forms of assessmentOral and written examinations
Course objectivesThe course of study enables graduates to obtain further professional qualification. This includes technical knowledge in electrical engineering and especially interdisciplinary competences as well as independent scientific work. Graduates of the course are qualified for various positions in industry, such as in the areas of power generation, power transmission and distribution, project management, and also research and development. The course of study provides a basis for future leading positions in industry. Thanks to the combination of technical knowledge with means of management and sustainability, graduates greatly improve their career chances in professional life.
Upon completion of the course of study, graduates are qualified explicitly by the university interface of research and teaching for an advanced scientific career, e.g. for doctoral studies. Also, other interdisciplinary positions in the areas of consulting or engineering offices are suitable options.
