Course Content

Year 1

The first year follows the same course of study as our other BSc degrees providing a broad-based introduction to the key Business School disciplines.

Year 2

Second year modules are designed to enable you to build on both the marketing and the broader management topics introduced in the first year. You will study the following modules:

Strategic Marketing and Brand Management: in this module you will analyse the strategic role of marketing within the organisation and explore the development and management of brands.

Marketing Communications: you will explore the fundamental concepts, theories, techniques and challenges involved in managing the organisation's integrated marketing communications mix.

Operations Strategy and Management: aims to equip you with the relevant knowledge and management skills necessary to effectively and efficiently develop strategies for the delivery of high quality services and/or goods in complex and dynamic environments.

Human Resource Management: develops an understanding and critical awareness of people resourcing and performance management.

Developing Management Skills: building on the first year module Developing Business Skills, this module will extend your ability to work numbers and words in a management context as well as developing teamwork and personal development skills.

You will also choose one further module from a list including languages.

Year 3

You will study the following modules:

Market Research: in which you will undertake the collection, analysis and presentation of market research data and explore the commissioning, interpretation and strategic use of market research.

Behavioural Aspects of Marketing: you will analyse the forces underpinning consumer behaviour, exploring the meanings that products, brands and possessions have in consumers' everyday lives.

Strategic Management: aims to provide an understanding of theory and practice for executing, implementing, and managing corporate and business strategy in organisations.

You will also take one module from a range of more applied and integrated management topics including: Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management; Management Consulting and Development; Project Management; Integrated Business Decision Making.

You will take one module from a range of more advanced and integrated topics including: Management of Innovation and Creativity; Retail Management; Supply Chain Management: Strategy and Design; Contemporary Workplace Relations; Corporate Governance; Marketing, Social Responsibility and the Law; Strategic Corporate Sustainability.

You will take one final module, drawn from a list including the options above and languages.

Requirements

Candidates will be expected to have 3 A levels (see below for typical offer). Please note: We do not accept A level General Studies as one of these.

Candidates with equivalent qualifications to the A level requirement are encouraged to apply (eg International Baccalaureate; Access to Higher Education certificate). International candidates are also actively encouraged to access the University's International section of our website.

Students should also have 5 GCSEs at Grade C or equivalent including English and Mathematics (grade B).

  • International Baccalaureate: 32 with at least 5 in Standard Level Maths
  • Scottish Advanced Highers: ABB (acceptable on its own or in combination with other qualifications)

  • Access Course: Pass with Distinction in 36 credits at level 3 and Merit in 9 credits at Level 3

Applications from students whose first language is not English are welcome. We require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading). Recognised English Language qualifications include:

  • IELTS: 6.5 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components)
  • TOEFL: Internet-based score of 92 overall (minimum 21 in the listening and writing components; 22 in the reading component; and 23 in the speaking component)
  • PTE: 62 overall (minimum 51 in all components)
