First semester at Mainz University of Applied Sciences:
  • Quantitative Analytical Methods: apply intermediate mathematical and statistical methods to business cases, which enable students to design and test their own research theses.
  • Business Research: learn about academic standards and ethical questions in research, their application in desk and field research and writing papers - in particular, the role of description and analysis, the application of statistics and figures, citing and referencing. Apply different interviewing techniques and questionnaire designs.
  • International Business Environment: analyse world trade and world financial flows as well as exchange rate issues from a macro-economic and business perspective. Understand how political economy and the business strategies of multinational companies are linked. Discuss the role of international institutions such as the WTO, IMF, and the World Bank.
  • Foreign Language and Argentinian Culture I (Spanish)

Second semester at Mainz University of Applied Sciences:
  • Strategic Management: integrate the various views of marketing, finance, accounting, and leadership modules into cases.
  • International Corporate Finance: in contrast to finance modules at undergraduate level, students focus on multinational enterprises. The discussion of risk management and exchange rate issues are closely linked to the contents of the modules International Business Environment, International Marketing and Export Management, and International Accounting.
  • International Marketing and Export Management: learn about the principles of export-based, multi-domestic and global approaches of international marketing and their implications for product and price positioning as well as placement and communication. Understand and know how to apply the major management tools to export operations including export finance and risk management.
  • International Business Law: analyse the legal framework of international trade including UNCITRAL, EU law and international organisations, access to markets including ICC rules on delivery and payment terms, licences, intellectual property rights, and anti-trust issues.
  • Foreign Language and Argentinian Culture II (Spanish)

Third semester at Mainz University of Applied Sciences:
  • Leadership and Organisation: learn about the interrelationship of leadership, theories of human interactions in organisations (organisational behaviour and psychology), change, and economic success.
  • Financial Reporting: learn about international accounting principles and their application in different world trade areas (e.g. US-GAAP and IFRS). Acquire the skill to "read" income statements of multinational enterprises published in different economic areas and to analyse the impact of these differences on selected accounting topics. Understand the implications of management control and budgeting practices.
  • History and Economics of Latin America
  • Foreign Language and Argentinian Culture III (Spanish)

Fourth semester at UCES, Buenos Aires:
  • Alliances, Mergers and Acquisitions

Educational organisation

Structure:
  • First, second and third semester at Mainz University of Applied Sciences
  • Fourth and fifth semesters at UCES, Buenos Aires

Teaching Methods:
Teaching methods in each course are a mixture of lectures and seminars. A strong emphasis is placed on individual work and independent projects. Group work is also very important. Larger and smaller groups work together in projects, which may be provided by (international) companies. Results are presented and reported back to the group.

Study abroad unit(s)

The Master's programme includes two compulsory semesters at out partner university (UCES) in Buenos Aires (fourth and fifth semester).

Internships

Every student has to take part in the "Applied Project" which includes an internship of a minimum of eight weeks in an international company.

Course objectives

Having successfully completed all required coursework as well as the Master's thesis, students will be awarded with the double degree Master of Arts in International Business | Maestría en Negocios Internacionales.

Language requirements

English: level C1
Proof of proficiency in English by presenting one of the following:
  • TOEFL (iBT min. 92 points, CBT min. 237 points)
  • IELTS (min. 6.5 points)
  • TOEIC (min. 800 points)
  • certificates that prove level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference
  • proof that you completed at least 30 ECTS in economic, legal or engineering courses taken and examined in English

Spanish: level B1
Proof of proficiency in Spanish by presenting one of the following:
  • certificates that prove level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference
  • proof that you completed at least 30 ECTS in economic, legal or engineering courses taken and examined in Spanish

German: level A2
Proof of proficiency in German by presenting one of the following:
  • certificates that prove level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference

Submitted certificates should not be older than two years.

Academic requirements

Applicants who wish to apply for the programme at Mainz University of Applied Sciences have to fulfil the following requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in management or business, engineering, science, economics or business law with above-average marks: minimum requirement: ECTS mark C, or a minimum average grade from the Bachelor's studies of 2.5 (according to the German grading system). Please hand in an official transcript of your grades from your Bachelor's studies along with your application.
  • Proof of excellent English language skills, good Spanish skills and basic German skills (see language requirements)
  • A personal statement (approx. two pages), in which applicants explain their motivation for studying in Argentina
  • Applicants with a Bachelor's degree awarded by a university outside of the European Union will have to send their application via uni-assist.

Enrolment fees

Approx. 290 EUR social fee per semester at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. This fee also has to be paid during the stay in Buenos Aires (the part for the semester ticket, which is included, can be compensated).

Costs of living

For the stay in Buenos Aires, you should calculate approx. 500 EUR for the visa, certificate of good conduct and other costs. For your living expenses you can calculate approx. 800 EUR per month.

For living expenses in Mainz:
Accommodation: approx. 230-370 EUR
Health insurance: approx. 75 EUR per month
Books and photocopies: approx. 150-200 EUR per semester
Lunch in the student restaurant: approx. 2-4 EUR per day

Funding opportunities within the university

Within the Centro Universitario Argentino-Alemán (CUAA), students have the possibility to apply for a scholarship. The scholarship consists of
  • block grant for the journey (max. 1,500 EUR)
  • amount for living costs (max. 9,800 EUR)
  • block grant for the foreign health insurance (max. 100 EUR)
During the selection process for the scholarship, students have to present their grades and pass an oral and written selection test about Latin America.

Application deadline for student residence rooms: 15 June. All applicants who submit their application before this date can be guaranteed a place. Students are strongly advised to apply for accommodation at Studierendenwerk even before they have received an acceptance letter from Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
