This program is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of core mathematical concepts, including pure and applied mathematics, mathematical modelling, statistics, and computational methods. The honours year serves as an excellent preparation for research opportunities, postgraduate study, or employment in industries requiring high-level mathematical expertise.
Throughout the program, students will engage in both theoretical and practical aspects of mathematics, collaborating on projects that relate to real-world problems in fields such as engineering, finance, computer science, and data analysis. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, logical reasoning, and the ability to formulate mathematical models to interpret complex data sets. Students will also gain experience using state-of-the-art mathematical software and computational tools, which are essential skills in today's data-driven world.
The Bachelor of Mathematics (Honours) at RMIT is delivered through a combination of lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions, offering a balanced mix of academic theory and hands-on experience. The program also encourages students to undertake independent research projects in their final year, which fosters innovation, analytical skills, and academic excellence. With access to RMIT's extensive industry networks and research facilities, students will benefit from opportunities to connect with professionals and contribute to meaningful projects.
Graduates of this program will be well-equipped for diverse career paths, including roles in data science, actuarial analysis, financial modelling, academia, and research institutes. The honours qualification also provides a solid foundation for pursuing further postgraduate study, such as a Master’s or PhD in mathematics, statistics, or related fields. This program embodies RMIT’s commitment to practical, industry-relevant education, prepared to equip students with the skills needed to excel in a competitive global environment.
You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school qualification) with a minimum 65% average (check calculator below).
Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.
Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee entry. Your application will still need to be assessed and accepted.
Prerequisites
