This program takes a multidisciplinary way of looking at natural hazards and the way that society may build resilience in the face of natural hazards. It will build from a broad understanding of pure danger situations with questions of policy development in the area of threat mitigation. The program covers the following issue areas: environmental elements that combine to generate natural hazards; both the environmental, societal and financial consequences of natural hazards and disasters; methods related to analyzing aspects of natural hazards and disasters; mitigation methods and related opportunities for policy development; future trends in preparation for and managing natural hazards.
