The properties of materials play a fundamental role in many applications we use everyday - and for those we have yet to develop. The laws of physics on the atomic scale determine the observed macroscopic properties of materials. The aim of this Master's Programme is to present courses that builds up knowledge and skill based on this perspective.
The program covers a broad range of condensed matter and materials research today, starting from atoms, molecules, clusters over nanoscience and nanotechnology all the way to realistic simulations of material properties and technical and industrial applications.
The program also includes soft matter which partly consists of synthetic materials, but also biological systems where fundamental physical principles and methods are applied to biological and living matter from biomolecules and cells up to the living state. You can choose between two tracks: Material Physics or Biophysics.

A chance to fund your studies
The University of Gothenburg is convinced that education and research flourish in an international environment. A mixture of students from different cultures enriches the learning environment and the University believes that motivated students should have a chance to study here, even if they dont have the means to cover all costs.
There are a number of opportunities to get a scholarship if you apply to the University of Gothenburg. If you are obliged to pay tuition fees in Sweden, you can apply for our scholarship that cover from half, to all of your tuition fees for the entire study programme.
There are also scholarship programmes available at bachelor's, master's, PhD and post-doctoral levels, which are administered by the Swedish Institute. The scholarship programmes target highly qualified students from certain countries.
