- Politics at Sussex is ranked in the top 20 in the UK in The Complete University Guide 2017.
- We offer teaching excellence, with three winners of national teaching awards among our faculty.
- Sussex hosts two major research centres. The Sussex Centre for the Study of Corruption (SCSC) takes an interdisciplinary approach to analysing what corruption is, where and why it flourishes and, most importantly, what can be done to counteract it. The SCSC works closely with organisations such as
Transparency International in developing recommendations and proposals for combating corruption both in the UK and further afield. The Sussex European Institute (SEI), a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for the study of European integration, consolidates the University’s position among the leading international centres of graduate training and research in European studies, focusing on European integration, representative politics in Europe, internal/
external security challenges to the EU, migration and citizenship. - Our politics faculty offer teaching and research expertise covering the spectrum of UK, European and international issues, encompassing political theory as well as comparative and party politics and corruption.
All new research students are required to participate in a programme of research training modules and to take other modules that may be recommended by the supervisor of their research (exemption from research training modules can be granted to those who have already taken such modules at postgraduate level).
Research students are based in the Sussex European Institute.
You can either choose to study for a research degree in contemporary European studies or in a particular discipline, for example anthropology, geography, economics, international relations or politics, while focused on a European topic. SEI also hosts visiting researchers.
