Washington State University’s online bachelor of science in psychology gives students a comprehensive understanding of basic psychology and scientific methods. The ability to systematically identify and solve human problems is crucial in workplaces and life situations.

WSU’s B.S. in psychology is designed for students who:

Course Content

All undergraduates must complete the WSU General Education Requirements (GER), or the University Common Requirements (UCORE), depending on their status. (These can generally be satisfied with a direct transfer degree. For a list of direct-transfer agreements, visit WSU's Transfer Information Web page.)

Students must also fulfill the College of Arts and Sciences graduation requirements and the program requirements of the degree. Time to degree completion varies depending on semester of enrollment and course availability. Not all courses are available all semesters. Please check with an academic consultant to map out the best plan for you.

  • Core Requirements: (11 semester credits)
    • Psych 105 - Introductory Psychology
    • Psych 311 - Elementary Statistics in Psychology
    • Psych 312 - Experimental Methods in Psychology

The remaining 4 credits may be satisfied by:

Taking one 3-credit Psychology course and a 1-credit 301 (301 not currently available online)

OR

Taking two 3-credit Psychology courses

These credits can be fulfilled with any of the courses listed above or with the following Psychology courses:

  • Psych 230 - Human Sexuality
  • Psych 301 - Seminar in Psychology
  • Psych 328 - Self Control

Writing in the major: Students must also complete two writing in the major courses. For online students, this requirement will be automatically fulfilled with Psych 312 and Psych 401.

Requirements

All students, including community college transfer students with an approved transferable AA degree from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Arizona or Hawaii, or students pursuing a second major in the College of Arts and Sciences, will be held to the following additional requirements:

  • Foreign Language: Complete 2 years of high school or 1 year of college in a single foreign language

Currently Enrolled and Former WSU Students (GER):

  • Additional 6 semester credits of Arts and Humanities/Social Sciences/Intercultural Studies - for a total of 18 semester credits in [H] [G] [I] [S] [K]
  • Additional 2 semester credits of Science, with 1 of the credits being a lab - for a total of 12 semester credits of GER sciences and 2 lab [L] courses

Freshmen and Transfer Students (UCORE):

  • Additional 3 semester credits of [SSCI,] [HUM], or [ARTS] for a total of 12 semester credits of UCORE
  • Additional 1 lab credit of [BSCI], [PSCI] for a total of 8 semester credits and 2 labs.
