The Master of Science in Risk Management at the University of Stavanger offers a strong academic basis for future work within risk management in the offshore industry as well as other industries.

The principal aim of the study program is to give the students the knowledge and basic thinking they require to approach risk and uncertainty to support decision-making. Topics covered are include: What is the meaning of risk? How to express risk and uncertainty? How to analyze reliability and availability? How to give weight to uncertainties? How to understand and apply the precautionary principle? How to determine acceptable risk? How to balance different concerns, such as safety and economics? How to apply cost-benefit and cost effectiveness analyses? How to apply expected values in risk management?

The MSc programme has an international profile with applications from students worldwide. The programme incorporates two streams of specialisation:

Offshore Safety

A Bachelor's degree in any engineering discipline is required.All applicants have to document at least 30 ECTS credits in mathematics/statistics/calculus of probability including at least 5 ECTS of statistics.English Language Requirements: Test of English as a foreign language (ETS TOEFL?®) with a minimum score of 550 (paper based), 80 (internet-based).International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) with a minimum score of 6.0.
