The Master of Arts in Southeast Asian History at the Department of History provides an excellent opportunity to pursue an advanced study of one of the world’s most diverse and dynamic regions. Students undertaking this MA programme will be exposed to a variety of scholarly perspectives that will give them a deeper understanding of the political, economic, social and cultural history of Southeast Asia which in a sense define the region. Further, country-specific courses will provide students greater exposure to the national issues and challenges faced by the members of ASEAN. As a graduate of our Coursework M.A. programme, you will be equipped with a wide knowledge of the region, develop highly analytical skills and be able to engage in global conversations about key issues affecting the Southeast Asian region.

Master Programme
Minimum period of study : 2 semesters
Maximum period of study : 8 semesters

Curriculum Structure of Master Programme (Coursework and Dissertation) сonsists of two components, which are:
• Coursework (15 credit hours)
- 2 compulsory courses (6 credit hours)
- 3 elective courses (9 credit hours)
• Dissertation (35 credit hours)
- A  research project leading to a submission of a dissertation not exceeding 30,000 word

 

Programme of study by Coursework and Research

(1) a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; or 
(2) a professional qualification from a recognised professional body; or
(3) any other qualification as may be approved by the Senate from time to time
