Graduates with MA in Tourism Management should be able to find employment opportunities both in Hungary and worldwide in the following areas: Business and management roles in public or private companies (e.g. within marketing, operations management, human resources, research and development, strategic planning). Private sector tourism industry jobs (e.g. tour operators, travel agencies, accommodation or transport sector, attractions, events management) and public sector roles (e.g. in local government, policy agencies, national or regional tourist boards).

As for job perspectives, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC, 2008) estimates that tourism's contribution to global economic activity and employment is expected to continue increasing over the coming ten years. Tourism is expected to grow until at least 2018 in the world economy. As a result there is a need for a qualified and professional workforce in all countries, especially at managerial level where important strategic decisions are made. There will be a growing need for graduates with MA in Tourism Management in English in Hungary too, since both Tourism Development Strategy and the New Széchenyi Plan defines tourism and the related services as key areas in which Hungary will be developed. That means areas such as health tourism; destinations, EU bids or regional planning will need graduates who gained complex and global experiences and knowledge that they can adapt to local situations. Graduates with MA in Tourism Management will be qualified to enrol in a PhD programme either in Hungary or abroad. 

This new programme is unique in Hungarian graduate education and it aims at the development of a series of intellectual skills to enable students to: research and assess subject specific facts, theories, paradigms, principles and concepts in tourism; critically assess and evaluate evidence; interpret data and text; describe and analyse information; apply knowledge to the solution of problems in connection with tourism. The teaching programme requires the completion of 120 credits and 4 semesters, resulting in a qualification: Economist in Tourism Management

Graduates with MA in Tourism Management should know: the operation of tourism system, the theory and practice of sustainability and sustainable tourism,  the operation and management of the key as well as the related fields of the industry, mechanisms of socio-economic environment, market rules, operation of for-profit organizations, factors influencing economic performance, financial support schemes and sources available for development, project management, operational and management issues of companies and organizations with special attention to tourism. Also, the latest trends in tourism and leisure (in Hungary and internationally), research of tourism studies: techniques, approaches, practical application of results and the definition and application of industry-ethical norms.

ADMISSION REQUIERMENTS FOR FOREIGN CITIZEN APPLICANTS

Proof of English language proficiency

·         TOEFL iBT 66 or above, or

·         IELTS overall band 6.0 or above or

·         equivalent English language proficiency certificates (please inquire)

·         native speakers of English and applicants who have completed their bachelor and/or master level studies in English will be exempt from providing proof of English language proficiency.
