International Business School – Budapest is a vibrant, modern business school in the middle of Europe that attracts international students from around 80 different countries worldwide. More than 300 students from around the world choose to study at IBS every year as
- full-time students
- through Erasmus programme founded by the European Union
- as a student from one of our foreign academic partners from Europe or Asia
- as a participant of our EU funded projects
We continue to value the academic and cultural contributions that you make to IBS by being one of our students.
IBS opened its gates in 1991 welcoming students who wished to study business in English. The founders of the school had long term plans and thus they moved the college (practically run in some rented rooms of an office block) from Kelenföldi railway station to the second district, one of the most beautiful districts of Buda. In 2014, IBS moved to the north of Budapest and is now offering a real campus experience with 3 brand new buildings in a business enviroment. The completely renovated, reshaped and well-equipped buildings in Graphisoft Park – with the Residence Hall in its close vicinity – is a perfect place for studies as well as recreation with its riverside setting and garden.
Following a successful institutional accreditation in 1997, IBS became a recognized private college in Hungary, with the right to issue Hungarian college degrees (called Bachelor's degrees today) besides the English degrees.
Owing to the continuous and systematic development process, by now IBS runs eight Bachelor's and four Master's programmes in addition to the single programme (BA in Business Studies) available in 1991.
The first degrees were awarded in 1995; the number of IBS graduates by 2012 is over 3300.
Our graduates can be found in almost every country in the world, which provides enormous networking possibilities. To maintain this ‘human’ capital IBS treats its Alumni community as top priority, and organizes monthly Alumni Evenings. We are proud that every third graduate is an Alumni member, which is a very high rate considering that almost 50% of the students come from abroad.

Before important decisions we tend to look for pros and cons; we try to draw possible outcomes, so that we eventually find a right way. When deciding about higher education, we do exactly the same… and we often daydream.
- Imagine a university where international experience is not just a phrase; a university that boasts international partnerships all over the world where students come from eighty different countries earning degrees from an acclaimed British university. A university operating not only in Budapest, Hungary but opening a new campus in Vienna, Austria in 2013 as well.
- Imagine a university where speaking a foreign language fluently is part of the plan; a university where you will be speaking English 24/7 during coursework and student parties alike.
- Imagine a university where you get the acclaimed degree of The University of Buckingham; where the British, American and EU accreditation helps you with your job interviews: you won’t have to spell the name or play a guessing game with your possible employers.
- Imagine a university, where you are a guaranteed participant of the Erasmus Scholarship Programme and have the chance to spend a semester in one of 66 partner universities in 18 EU countries.
- Imagine a university where you can have an internship at one of our 300 large corporate partners.
- Imagine a university where students are considered clients and therefore enjoy personal attention; a university that provides the opportunity to develop individual and team building skills in cross cultural contexts.
- Is this the university you have in mind? It’s called International Business School Budapest.
