China is the most populous country in the world and the fastest growing economy in the world. As this emerging global superpower will increasingly influence international politics, culture and trade in the 21st century, there is a growing demand for Chinese studies graduates around the world.
The Chinese Studies program is designed to provide a broad foundation in Chinese language, culture and history with additional opportunities to focus on China's religious and philosophical worldview as well as China's economic structure.
What this program about?
The Chinese Studies major offers academically rigorous courses in Chinese language, history, literature, culture, religion, and film studies. Students acquire the general literacy and appreciation of the richness and variety of traditional and modern Chinese Studies in its broadest sense.
It aims at helping the students to understand China, a rapidly developing country with a continuously growing global influence. By following the program, you will not only learn practical language and cross-cultural communication skills but also gain an insight into the path and features of China’s development.
Degree levels
The BA China Studies provides you with an in-depth understanding of one of the most important global players of the 21st century. You will learn to apply theories from the humanities and social sciences to your understanding and analysis of China while benefiting from living in country and experiencing the language and culture first hand.
Students have the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of Chinese culture, history, society, and current issues through the M.A. program in China Studies at universities. Developing language proficiency is a key component of the study plan.
PhD Chinese Studies programme will enable you to undertake a meaningful piece of research that aligns with our interests in a wide range of areas. Chinese Buddhism, as well as modern and contemporary Chinese and Taiwanese cultures, such as cinema and media, Chinese social and political history, are all topics of research.
