Space Sciences seek to further our understanding of the Earth, the solar system, and their histories. The scope extends from the center of Earth to the rim of the solar system, and activities cut across traditional disciplines of physics, chemistry, biology, geology, and mathematics.
Space Studies degrees prepare specialists who analyze celestial objects and phenomena, like the sun, stars, asteroids, supernova explosions, gamma rays, etc. Students use principles from Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics to understand how these objects are formed and how they evolve in the future. Space Sciences degrees prepare students interested in space exploration, space technologies, space operations, and more.
What is this program about?
If you want to gain a broad understanding of physics while exploring astrophysics, this course is for you. You’ll learn from experts working at the forefront of astrophysics, from exploring dark energy to the early universe. You study modules based on the latest research, from quantum mechanics to particle physics. You have opportunities to work alongside our world-leading faculty on ground-breaking discoveries. This is through your final year project and various research placement opportunities.
Space Science degrees
As a graduate of the B.S. in Space Science Education, you will be poised to foster in middle and high school students a stewardship of the planet and a zest to explore the wonders of space. The program offers a comprehensive overview of interacting earth systems, including the hydrosphere and atmosphere, as well as an understanding of the evolution of the earth’s physical and biological systems through time. The Bachelor of Arts in Earth and Space Sciences enables students to obtain a broad understanding of earth sciences as a background for professional careers such as science journalism, environmental law, science education, and environmental policy.
Would you like to continue your studies after obtaining your Bachelor's degree? Then, of course, moving on to a Master's program is also an option. The Master of Space Studies (MSS) is a one- or two-year interdisciplinary graduate degree program. The MSS covers all aspects of the global space domain and is designed for students from a diverse range of educational, cultural, and professional backgrounds. An applicant for admission should have an undergraduate degree in any subfield of space sciences (astrobiology, astronomy/astrophysics, geosciences, planetary sciences), physics, or a related engineering field.
The best universities where you can study Space Science
According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject, one of the best universities for studying this program are American Public University,Technical University of Munich, and University of Birmingham. All these universities offer very high-quality education, as well as guaranteed employment. Excellent students are provided with scholarships and other types of funding.
Career outcomes
As a graduate you may find career opportunities as a scientist working for industry or government, a technician working in a laboratory or in the field, a teacher (in combination with appropriate education studies), a meteorologist (subject to appropriate government training), researcher or academic (subject to appropriate postgraduate qualifications), or self-employment providing scientific and/or technical services.
