University of Queensland, The (UQ)

Established in 1909, the University of Queensland is the oldest tertiary institution in the State and certainly one of Australia's premier learning and research associations. The University aims to enable students and staff to positively influence the society in that they live by creating a detection and learning environment in that they may grow and fulfil their dreams. The primary campus is in St Lucia in Brisbane with UQ Gatton located 80 kilometres into the west and west UQ Herston campus located in the Brisbane Hospital precinct. The UQ Brisbane City website is located in the Brisbane CBD. Other UQ locations include teaching hospitals and health centers, veterinary science centresand agricultural science labs, marine research channels, physics research channels, seismograph channels and an underground mine. University of Queensland students include school leavers and pupils from overseas and interstate. International students from more than 100 countries account for a large percentage of overall enrolments, diversifying cultural life on campus and providing opportunities for international media.
