Admission requirements

To be admitted as a regular student in the PhD (Chemistry) program, candidates must:

• Meet the general admission requirements (section XX) of the “Règlement pédagogique de la Faculté des études supérieures et postdoctorales” (educational regulations of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies).
• Have an MSc in Chemistry (Thesis) from Université de Montréal or show proof of equivalent education
• Have obtained a grade-point average at the graduate level of at least 3.3 out of 4.3 or the equivalent.
• Have sufficient knowledge of English

All graduate students in the Department of Chemistry are guaranteed minimum funding that is comparable with what is offered in other Departments of Chemistry at other major Canadian universities. Note that tuition fees in Quebec are significantly lower than in any other province in Canada.

Several students receive NSERC postgraduate (master’s and doctoral) awards of $17,300/year and $21,000/year, respectively. A small number of prestigious NSERC awards are valued at $35,000/year.FRQ-NT graduate awards are valued at $15,000 (MSc) and $20,000 (PhD). For all NSERC and FRQ-NT scholarships, the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FESP) or the thesis supervisor offers a supplement to the award recipient. The Department of Chemistry also offers teaching assistantships in undergraduate laboratories at a level of approximately $3,000/semester to supplement research stipends.
