The Air Transportation Management Program aims to prepare future executives of the dynamic, highly competitive airline industry that constantly changes, develops, and continues to grow and surpass all other modes of transport in our country, just like all around the world; and produce sought-after graduates in the field of air transportation management for national and international airlines, airports, and other aviation companies.
The program strives to offer students an extensive and comprehensive education in the fields of management and aviation to help them pursue a career in the air transportation management; and allows them to put their theoretical knowledge into practice and obtain hands-on experience in the business life through a series of distinguished internship programs.

Course Content

The Undergraduate Air Transportation Management Program offers a comprehensive and intensive curriculum designed to prepare students for their future air transportation management careers by building a solid foundation both in management and aviation and focusing on airport planning, design and management, as well as airline and air transportation management.
During the first two years, the program offers students basic management courses as well as technical courses on Air Transportation, Airports & Airport Operations, Principles of Flight, and Meteorology in order to familiarize students with the notion of aviation.
During the junior and senior years, students take the required management and aviation courses on Airport Planning and Design, Corporate Finance, Airline/Airport Marketing, Human Resources Management based on the track of their choice.

Our program provides students with extensive and comprehensive education both in aviation and management, which are the key requirements for a career in air transportation management; and allows students to put their knowledge into practice and obtain hands-on experience in the business life through compulsory internship programs.

In addition to the required courses, the program also offers major and free electives for students to choose from based on their area of interest.

Tracks

The Undergraduate Air Transportation Management Program is focused on courses on airline management, airport management and air transportation management as well as the basic management courses; and is designed to produce graduates who will be recruited for management level positions both in the national and international aviation.
The programs managerial focus and rich curriculum offering operational know-how will vest its graduates with the necessary skills and competences to assume managerial responsibilities not only in the aviation industry but also at other companies in different industries as well.

Lecturers

Hatice KÜÇÜKÖNAL

Assistant Professor, Director, School of Aviation Dr. Hatice Küçükönal received her Bachelors Degree in English Language Teaching from Anadolu University Faculty of Education in 1983. She obtained her Masters Degrees in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) from Bilkent University and in Aviation Management from Anadolu University Graduate School of Social Sciences in 1989 and in 1998, respectively. She completed her Ph.D. degree in Aviation Management in 2001, following which she was appointed as an Assistant Professor. In addition to serving as a faculty member at the School of Civil Aviation, Dr. Küçükönal also worked as a Deputy Director from 2003 to 2008. Her main research interests include air transportation management, airport operations, airport security, airport planning and management. Dr. Küçükönal also has conference proceedings presented and published in national and international conferences as well as articles published in both refereed and non- refereed journals. She also served as an Advisory and Scientific Board member in aviation symposiums held in Turkey and worked as a researcher in two research projects sponsored and published within the scope of TUBITAK and Anadolu University Scientific Research Projects. Besides her academic studies Dr. Küçükönal also worked as a member of the working committee under the Special Expertise Commission on Air Transportation for the 8th and 9th Development Plan of the State Planning Organization and as a member of the working committee founded by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation under the Ministry of Transportation and Communication for the preparation of reports for the 2004 Economy Congress of Turkey.

Münir Tolga AKÇURA

Associate Professor

Dr. Akçura received his B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering (1990) and his M.A. in Business Administration (1996) from Bogaziçi University. In 1998 he received his M.B.A degree, and in 2000 his PhD in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Akçura enjoys teaching marketing strategy, marketing research, and database marketing.

Dr. Akçura was voted to be the Distinguished Teacher by MBA students at Purdue University two years in a row. Professor Akçura was named a Direct Marketing Association Fellow in 2001. While at Carnegie Mellon, he received the William W. Cooper Doctoral Dissertation Award, the American Marketing Association Consortium Fellow and the Andrew Mellon Fellowship. Before joining to academia, Dr. Akçura was the European New Product Planning Department Manager for Procter & Gamble, Europe.

Zeynep AKSEHIRLI

Assistant Professor

Dr. Aksehirli obtained her M.S. in 1997 and B.A. in 1995 in Industrial Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU). In 2002, she received her PhD from UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Dr. Aksehirli is primarily interested in understanding how communication within an organization shapes common norms and values, and affects people's behavior even in the absence of formal rules. Her research and consulting projects span a wide array of industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, entertainment, public utilities, education and retail. In her interdisciplinary research, she fused together corporate strategy and corporate culture; customer relationship management and social networks; gender diversity and communication; decision making and management education. Her printed work appeared in the European Journal of Management, Human Resources Round Table Quarterly and the Journal of Advertising Research.

Kenan Bakkaloglu

Mr. Bakkaloglu received his B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from Bogaziçi University in1977. After completing his military service in National Security.Council General Secretariat he joined the MBA program of Portland State University and graduated in 1983.

Greater part of his proffessional career was with Saudi Arabian Airlines where he worked in various departments and capacity as Procurement Specialist, Production Planner, Manager, Instructor and Chief Consultant. In 1998 he joined General Electrics Six Sigma training project and played a key role in designing and implementing the program in Technical Services of the airline.

Upon his return to Turkey in 2005 he lectured on Process and Quality management in Sakarya and Okan Universities and conducted Six Sigma belt programs in several major firms of textile, electronics and service sectors.

Foreign students are admitted to the institutions of higher education in Turkey on condition that applicants fulfill the requirements for student admission determined by the relevant institution of higher education and approved by the Council of Higher Education.
The applications from following students will be accepted:

  • foreign students who are either high school graduates or are studying their last year in high school,
  • students with dual nationality who abandoned their Turkish or TRNC citizenship and who complete their entire high school education abroad
  • citizens of TRNC who have completed their entire high school in TRNC and have GCE A/L result

The applications from following students will not be accepted:

  • Turkish citizens,
  • TRNC citizens (except the students who have completed their entire high school in TRNC and have GCE A/L result),
  • Students with dual nationality one of which is Turkish,
