Chemistry is a "physical" science which deals with structures, properties, reactions, syntheses, and uses of substances. The general purpose of studies in chemistry is to increase our understanding of the structure and behavior of the matter of our environment. By its nature, chemistry is interdisciplinary and occupies a central position among the sciences. You will begin your studies by focusing on the broad principles that describe how the matter in the world around you exists and behaves at the molecular level. In your second and third years you will concentrate on the four main sub-disciplines of chemistry, then move on to more specialized courses in your third and fourth years including organic and inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, quantum and spectroscopy, environmental chemistry, bio-organic and bio-inorganic chemistry, and nanotechnology.
