The programme provides a postgraduate route for students who have completed an undergraduate degree containing some Creative Writing and who wish to proceed to a career or further study in this area. It also provides a postgraduate qualification in Creative Writing for students who have taken a conventional degree in English or similar but who have considerable experience in writing creatively. With this in mind, the MA in Creative Writing offers instruction and experience across a range of writing types, including new media, yet establishes a focus (story and story-telling) that will identify Birminghams unique contribution to Creative Writing studies.

The programme will bring students together who are working in different genres in order that they might engage collaboratively across genres before specialising (in screenwriting, playwriting, fiction or poetry) for their dissertations.
