European Studies on Society, Science and Technology is an interdisciplinary social science programme on the science and technology-based societies in the past, present and future both in the global North as South. The emergence and dissemination of new technologies - such as the internet, genetic engineering, nanotechnology and alternative energy production - both opens up opportunities and threats to modern societies and economies. Citizens, governments, research institutes and corporations face challenges in trying to capitalise on the seemingly infinite opportunities that such developments offer. Thus, there is increasing demand for experts who can deal with the complexities of modern society in a reflective and politically conscious manner. ESST prepares you for a wide spectrum of professional activities in research and policy institutions, NGOs and private companies, or to follow a subsequent PhD programme. This is a one-year programme taught in English.
