Children may exhibit exceptional performance in any one of a number of intellectual and academic pursuits. These gifted and talented children often require educational, social and emotional support that is specific to their needs. Many countries around the world now recognise the special needs of these children and are placing greater emphasis on their education.

The course is offered to enable teachers to meet the specific needs of these children and it can also provide a pathway for teachers who may wish to pursue masters or doctoral studies in the field. The course provides a broad theoretical and practical basis for the education of gifted and talented children, hence the principles are applicable across a number of cultures. Particular attention is given to cultural differences. The course will appeal to practising teachers already in the field of gifted education, or those teachers wishing to specialise.
