Specialisation Trade and Retail:
The degree programme is focussed on international trade and retailing specialised for the textile and clothing industry. Students are prepared for the management of international companies of this business. The specialisation contains lectures about International Marketing, International Accounting, Financing, Global Trade and its Regulations, Retail and Advanced Management skills. Innovations in Textile Technology and Advanced Quality Management are further subjects.

Specialisation Technical Textiles:
The degree programme is focussed on technical textiles specialised on surface functionalisation and protective clothes. Students are prepared for the management of international companies specialised in innovations in textile technology. The specialisation contains lectures about all production processes for that business (spinning, weaving, knitting, finishing and pattern making) as well as advanced management skills and advanced quality management.

Project work as well as applied research work is an essential part for both specialisations.

Course objectives

Trade and Retail:
Qualification of managers of international trade companies for textiles and garments respectively international networks of textile and clothing companies and internationally operating retailers

Technical Textiles:
Qualification for research in and production of technical textiles and the management of the production processes and research and development projects

Language requirements

Applicants must provide proof of their English skills.
English: TOEFL: 88 (Internet-based) or IELTS band 6.5 or equivalent

Academic requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Textile and Clothing Technology, Textile or Clothing Management, Textile Chemistry, Textile or Fashion Design with 210 credit points or seven semesters at a German university or equivalent at a foreign university
  • Final grade of 2.5 at least (on a scale from 1 Very Good to 4 Minimum Passing Grade)
  • Six months practical experience in textile and clothing technology during the Bachelor's studies or after graduation
  • Motivation letter and project plan referring to a given topic

Enrolment fees

"Semesterbeitrag": 280 EUR per semester
Fee includes a semester ticket covering public transport in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Approx. 700 EUR per month, including mandatory health insurance

Job opportunities

Applicants should not count on financing their stay in Krefeld or Mönchengladbach by working part-time during their studies; however, some students are successful in finding part-time jobs either at the university or elsewhere.
