Description
The course develops hands-on practical skills as well as academic rigour. You should be involved in sport at a reasonable level at least the equivalent of county standard. We would usually expect some previous experience of coaching.
During the first year we will introduce you to sport-related psychology, physiology, anatomy, biomechanics and sociology. This year is common to all our sports science degrees.
During the second and final years, you will undertake specialist studies in coaching theory and practice. You must also successfully complete three coaching awards from one of these areas: racquet sports; indoor team games; outdoor team games; gymnastics; aquatic activities; water-based activities, the cost of which will be borne by the student. Please talk with us if you would like to gain awards in other areas.
Our teaching team is passionate about the subject. According to the National Student Survey 2011, 90% of our sports science students find that staff are good at explaining things.
Potential employers include professional sports clubs, recreation facilities, health and fitness clubs, local authorities and schools and colleges.
