Academic training in state of the art in urban environmental research, including a cross-disciplinary outlook, and practical decision-making and problem solving skills.

Sustainable management of the urban environment has become one of the key challenges for the future. Nearly three-quarters of the world's urban population lives in African, Asian and Latin-American cities, and they will absorb most of the projected population increase until 2030. Inadequate water supply, sanitation, waste collection and waste management systems are the cause of serious urban pollution and health hazards. The challenge is to learn how to live with urbanisation, taking advantage of its benefits, while guiding undesirable and negative impacts in a manageable direction. Urban environmental management draws on and integrates theories and perspectives from several scientific disciplines. Its implementation requires a mix of technical and managerial competencies and skills. The MSc programme in Urban Environmental Management aims to equip you with the outlook, concept and tools to manage the urban environment. After completing the programme you will have a solid understanding of the state of the art in urban environmental research, a cross-disciplinary outlook, and practical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
