Social Services: Transfer Associate

This program prepares students for transfer to four-year colleges and universities offering baccalaureate degrees in social work, psychology, human services, or other social service professions. The degree also prepares students for work in the Human Services field.  Human service professionals work directly with clients and are accurate, reliable, responsible, and self-motivated.  In addition, they work well under pressure and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.  All students interested in this program must take HUMS 100, Introduction to Human Services, as the first course in the curriculum. Students are required to complete a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Criminal Background Check, and a State Police Criminal Record Check prior to enrollment into the practicum course. If the student has any questions regarding this, he or she should contact the Program Director or Practicum Coordinator. Because students are planning to transfer to other institutions, it essential to choose an intended transfer institution as soon as possible and carefully follow the program described in that college’s catalog, as four-year institutions vary widely. The complete program is available at the Gettysburg, Harrisburg, Lancaster, and York campuses. Some of the required courses are available at the Lebanon Campus, as well as through Virtual Learning.

This transfer curriculum is provided as a guide for students planning to transfer to a baccalaureate degree granting institution. Transfer students may continue their education in a wide variety of social services field such as mental health, mental retardation, substance abuse, gerontology, women’s services and family services. Graduates of the program receive the training and education for positions in a number of social service fields as social and human services assistants.

Conduct interviews for purposes of gathering information, assessment, and development of service plans

Work effectively with clients and their families to plan treatment or service

Write effective contact notes, social histories and maintain client files

Make referrals and facilitate clients moving through the social service system

Are you a future student and ready to apply to HACC? 
By applying to HACC, you have the opportunity to apply for a full-ride scholarship! HACC will fund two years of your education – enough to complete your associate degree.

Thanks to the support of the HACC Foundation, the College is able to offer FREE money to support future students, like you, in reaching your educational goals. Six full-ride scholarships are available – one from each of the five campuses and one through HACC’s Virtual Learning Program. 

Please note that current students are not eligible for the full-ride scholarships. However, there are more than 250 scholarships available for current students.

What should you know about the full-ride scholarship?

The scholarship covers tuition, books and fees for a full academic year. 

The scholarship will automatically renew each term for up to six consecutive terms if you maintain your eligibility.

Once you apply to the College and receive a HACC ID and email address, you may apply for the full-ride scholarship. You do not have to register for classes before applying for the scholarship.

Are you eligible?

To be eligible, you must:

Apply to HACC

Take 12-15 credits each term for no more than six consecutive terms (two years)

Live in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Schuylkill or York county

Have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0

Provide a 480 SAT reading score, 21 ACT or comparable scores on the College’s placement test

Maintain a GPA of 3.0 while enrolled at HACC

Participate in at least two HACC student organizations
