The Criminal Law program can help those who want to make a career in the legal field. Classes usually introduce students to the theories and methods underlying certain laws. Graduates can become professional lawyers or even help in the fight against terrorism.
Program Features
This specialty allows you to specialize in an important area of legal practice, giving you a deeper understanding of criminal law and the criminal justice system. In addition to developing your legal skills, a direct connection with the legal profession and industry will provide practical opportunities to gain "real world" experience. If you are passionate about criminal justice, this well-rounded degree will be the perfect springboard to start your chosen path. It usually takes eight semesters to complete a bachelor's degree. When taking a bachelor's degree course, candidates must study general courses and choose a specific main subject.
The course develops critical and independent thinking. You will be supported in developing the confidence and skills necessary to ask and answer compelling questions about law and its role in society, as well as to present your reasoned arguments effectively orally or in writing. You will gain new knowledge and understanding of the principles and values of law and justice, as well as learn how the law can be used for the benefit of individuals and societies, including the most marginalized in our community.
During the course, students will immerse themselves in the fundamental areas of legal knowledge. You will study not only criminal law, but also subjects such as public law, where you will learn about how a country is organized and governed; and contract law, where you will learn about how legal agreements are concluded and act between people and companies. In addition, you will have the opportunity to study topics such as digital police and electronic crime, Crime and the Media, organized crime and the fight against terrorism.
Career
The highest average salary of a criminal lawyer for those who work in London is about 52,500 pounds. Outside London, the average salary of a criminal lawyer ranges from 32,000 to 42,000 pounds, depending on the area. In Scotland and Wales, the average salary of a criminal lawyer is just under £43,000, while in Northern Ireland the average salary is around £33,000.
The salary not only varies depending on the region, but will also vary depending on the company and, of course, will increase as an intern, a qualified lawyer and a partner move up the career ladder. Although criminal defense lawyers tend to earn more than solicitors, the downside of this is that lawyers' income is less stable because they tend to be self-employed.
It is important to note that criminal defense lawyers may be paid less than lawyers of other specialties due to a reduction in the volume of legal aid. After the Government somewhat reduced the provision of legal aid, many people were unable to afford legal aid. As a result, fewer and fewer people turn to criminal lawyers and prefer to resolve disputes by alternative methods.
