Research on childhood and youth covers all areas related to children and youth from birth to 19 years. During your degree, you will learn about some of the most important issues that affect the youth of society; you will be taught how to develop skills to solve these problems and find solutions.
The courses cover topics in a national and international context, such as education, rights, protection, therapy, equality and development. Teaching uses an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on related areas. Among them are sociology, psychology, anthropology, philosophy and jurisprudence. This degree will allow you to develop your youth work skills and practice youth work. You will examine in detail the evolution of identities, representations in the media, social policy, community development and the history of the state approach to youth policy. This degree covers cultural studies, criminology, sociology and psychology to provide insight into everything from youth work to urban gang life and youth welfare.
The transition to adulthood is often seen as a complex psychological process, but it is also a time of new opportunities and discoveries. Young people are represented in a number of social problems, ranging from unemployment to social relations and youth protests. At the same time, young people are actively involved in the media and in creativity. You explore the phenomenon of youth culture, getting an idea of youth in a social, cultural and political context. In addition, you will study local, national and global issues, as well as events that shape the lives of young people and their life experiences.
This Bachelor's degree in Youth Studies will help you develop practical and transferable skills such as computing, video production, and quantitative and qualitative analysis. These skills will be useful for your employment, further education or research. Our teachers are qualified and experienced practitioners in the field of youth-oriented research. In this course, you will also be able to participate in debates with external experts.
The modules are designed to represent various aspects of youth culture and current social issues affecting young people. These include topics concerning and encouraging the analysis of youth, resistance and social control, as well as the study and criticism of the concept of "I", identity and gender. You can choose to study modules that focus on areas of interest to you.
You will be able to explore current social topics, including the relationship between the media and the cultural experience and self-expression of young people, antisocial behavior and criminal activity, as well as the mental health of young people. Each module of this course is worth a certain number of credits. During each year, you need to study modules for a total of 120 credits. For example, four modules worth 20 credits and one module worth 40 credits. In addition to your compulsory employment during the 2nd year, you can also choose a year of paid employment between the 2nd and 3rd years. This will allow you to put your new skills into practice, developing valuable connections with employers.
