School of Science
At the School of Science, we promote a vibrant and dynamic environment that emphasizes academic excellence, innovation, and collaboration. Comprised of one division and three departments, the School offers a wide spectrum of programs which aim to enhance our students' university experience while preparing them to meet the demands of ever-changing societal needs. School of Engineering
The School of Engineering (SENG) is the largest of the five Schools within the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). It enrolls almost 40% of the University's student body, with over 3,200 undergraduates and more than 2,000 postgraduates. About 30% of the University's faculty members are in SENG.SENG has a strong international reputation and consistently ranks high among major engineering schools around the world. In the 2015-16 Times Higher Education World University Rankings in Engineering and Technology, HKUST was ranked No. 1 in Greater China and 16th globally. School of Humanities and Social Science
With sixty professors in fifteen disciplines, we are the largest interdisciplinary university-level program in humanities and social science in China and Greater China and the only one to have an explicit program-wide comparative focus exemplified by our undergraduate and graduate degrees in Global China Studies.
As teachers in the School of Humanities and Social Science, HKUST, we are obligated to teach HKUST’s UG and PG students. Each individual student is unique, and they should be given the freedom to think, to discover knowledge, and to find their own paths. Their ideas, opinions, suggestions and criticisms should be taken into consideration, and they should be treated fairly. Our passion keeps students interested, inspired and enthusiastic. Students should be exposed to organized information for understanding human cultures and diversities, be able to see a problem from multiple perspectives, and be prepared for the future world and to become responsible citizens of the local, national and global communities. Teaching is a scholarly and professional activity of facilitating learning. A productive culture of teaching, developed from our commitment to teaching, will help us to grow personally and professionally.

Interdisciplinary Programs Office
The Interdisciplinary Programs Office (IPO) is a significant development in HKUST’s well-established tradition of innovative teaching, learning and research. Working across and with all Schools, the IPO answers the demand of the community for graduates and researchers who can tackle the increasingly complex issues of our times through a special combination of knowledge and skills. Bringing together two or more different fields of disciplinary study together, the IPO aims to cultivate a different type of educational environment and research experience for those interested in integrating their capabilities and developing original approaches to solution-building. We aim to foster a new breed of competent graduates who are open-minded, versatile and exploratory in their career development.
We administer the interdisciplinary Division of Environment, which provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduate and postgraduate education, research, as well as extensive community outreach programs focused on environmental issues. In addition, our Division of Biomedical Engineering coordinates and promotes leading education and research initiatives in its expertise areas. Research projects in partnership with industry and the community are also encouraged through the Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management and Risk Management and Business Intelligence Program to allow full engagement of our students with the community. The new Individualized Interdisciplinary Major offers a non-traditional, cross-School academic pathway for exceptional Hong Kong and international students with the vision, talents and character to create their own study program.
