Sheffield is the UK´s first national city of sport and an important centre of sports medicine and sport science. We designed this course to provide a fresh approach to interprofessional work in sport injury.
Sheffield Hallam University boast the Centre for Sport and Exercise Science (CSES) and one of the largest centres of physiotherapy education in the UK. CSES provides research and consultancy services in sport and exercise. It has adopted a holistic approach to its work and has close links with sports medicine practioners.
The centre provides sport science services at elite standard to the sports of o football o rugby o athletics o golf o squash o sailing o table tennis o cricket. You benefit from their activities through our continuous updating of teaching materials for project work and dissertations.
We are one of the main providers of undergraduate and postgraduate education and training for physiotherapy, nursing, social work and many other allied health professions. We are also a national leader in interprofessional education.
In sport injury our physiotherapy teaching staff work alongside colleagues in medicine and science and have strong clinical links with local healthcare providers.
We have invested heavily in sport and exercise science and have one of the finest suites of sport and exercise science laboratories in the UK. It caters for student learning and research and we deliver modules in these facilities.
The collaboration
Evidence suggests there is a clear benefit to athletes if sports clinicians and physiotherapists work as a team. The team needs to recognise and understand the approaches of each of the other members. As a team they must consider the prime needs of the athlete and the role of the coach. This course brings together specialists in sport science, sports medicine and therapies to provide an integrated holistic approach to the prevention, management and rehabilitation of sport injuries.

MSc
To gain an MSc you must submit a dissertation of between 12,000 and 15,000 words.
Associated careers
This course enables you to work as part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists, medics and physiotherapists providing a holistic approach to the management of sport injuries. These teams work with sporting bodies athletes and exercise participants.
