BP046PBR – Bachelor of Education (Primary Education) - Brunswick

Our program prepares primary teachers for the demands of twenty-first century learning and teaching.

Our elective courses allow you to broaden your understanding in a range of areas, including teaching languages, indigenous studies, sustainability in schools and coaching children’s sport.

BP046PEC – Bachelor of Education (Primary and Early Childhood Education) - Bundoora

This specialised degree provides a professional qualification that allows you to work in a \ range of primary and early childhood education settings locally and internationally.

BP046PDS – Bachelor of Education (Primary Education and Disability Studies) - Bundoora

This specialised degree provides a professional qualification in both primary education and disability studies. You’ll be prepared to teach learners with special needs in either special or mainstream schools.

You will acquire in-depth knowledge of learning, teaching, curriculum and assessment in the education sector.

Core courses cover essential learnings and content knowledge for literacy, numeracy, science and technology, health and physical education, the arts and humanities.

Elective courses allow you to broaden your understanding in areas such as teaching languages, indigenous studies, sustainability in schools and coaching children’s sport.

You’ll learn to demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in diverse educational contexts, including the application of communication technology to support your teaching practice.

You’ll work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness and ethical and reflective practice.

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school qualification).

Prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; and a study score of at least 20 in any Mathematics.

Selection tasks

You must submit a personal statement addressing:

  • your reasons for wanting to study this course
  • your motivation to teach
  • your strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • your willingness to learn
  • your resilience, self-efficacy and conscientiousness
  • your organisational and planning skills.

Working with children check

Applicants will be required to hold a valid Working with Children (WWC). Check prior to undertaking professional placements as part of this course.

Literacy and Numeracy Test

Enrolled students are required to complete the Literacy and Numeracy test in their first year of study.

Students are allowed a maximum of three attempts and the test must be passed by the end of the second year of enrolment in order to graduate from the program. Students who do not pass the test will have access to counselling and support services. 

The literacy and numeracy test costs $185 (per attempt) and is mandated by the Federal Government and will be administered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).
