The attendance requirements and modes of assessment are determined by the unit.

Students following the part-time route follow the same pattern of study described above, however students can take up to 2 years to complete both phases of the programme.

Taught sessions are mainly conducted during weekdays, though some may be offered at weekends and in the evening. In additon to the taught sessions you are expected to work independently.

This independent work will sometimes be directed by the tutor.

In addition to these directed tasks, you are also expected to spend time preparing for assignments by independent reading, research and reflection.

An intensive study route is also available, enabling you to complete the taught elements of the course through a period of short, but intense formal instruction followed by independent study supported by online materials, discussions and support. The intensive study mode should be of particular interest to international students.

Module Information
Postgraduate Certificate: Comprises a mandatory core unit: Research Methods in Education and one option unit taught in the Autumn Term. Each unit is worth 30 credits and is equivalent to 300 hours of student effort.

Postgraduate Diploma: As for the Postgraduate Certificate, plus a further two 30 credit option units taken in the Spring-Summer teaching block.

Masters Degree (MA): As for Postgraduate Diploma, plus a research-based dissertation equivalent to 60 credits, assessed by a document equivalent to 12,000 words. You will complete your disdertation in collaboration with a tutor and a community of practice consisting of other students who are working at a similar level.
You can select from a range of option units that typically include:

* Global Perspectives in Education
* Professional Mentoring
* Neogitated Course
* Up to 2 elective units can be taken from the Institute of Education Portfolio of Masters Level Units.

* Core Units Global Perspectives in Education The unit will enable you to explore comparative educational approaches and key contemporary national, international and global issues and debates in education.

Negotiated Course The unit provides an opportunity for flexible, self directed negotiated learning that will aid your personal development and lead to an enhancement of your skills.

Professional Mentoring This unit enables you to gain credit for participation in professional development mentoring. As well as developing a theoretical understanding of the mentoring process, participants will also undergo training to enable them to become effective mentors.

You should normally have a good honours degree, typically a first or second- class classification. We also accept candidates who have alternative but equivalent qualifications or experience for example: * an equivalent professional qualification recognised at honours degree standard * an unclassified or lower classified degree alongside significant, relevant professional experience in education * a postgraduate certificate or diploma appropriate to the main area of study English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL paper-based test score : 575 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa.
