Loyola University Chicagos School of Education serves more than 1,000 graduate students enrolled in masters, educational specialist, certificate, and doctoral programs. The School prepares professionals in the service of social justice and promotes the Jesuit ideals of quality, intellectual rigor, and service to others.

Loyola's M.Ed. program in International Higher Education provides students with deep knowledge of the changing landscape of higher education globally and prepares them to work in multiple areas including higher education policy, administration, international student affairs and study abroad. This program is ideally designed for those who are interested in exploring international higher education in an international, multicultural context. Students gain greater understanding of the role of social justice in international higher education, particularly with regard to student development and diversity. Courses are offered online with the exception two blended courses, one of which entail a week in Beijing and the other two weeks in Beijing. This global cohort format allows students the convenience and flexibility to study wherever they are, while earning a degree from a respected U.S. university.

The School of Education is accredited by the (United States) National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges (NCA).

Length of the Program

This cohort program is designed to be completed in 2 years including summers. All courses must be completed within the cohort sequence.

Curriculum Plan

Completion of this M.Ed. degree requires 36 semester hours and completion of a final electronic portfolio. This program will include online and blended courses with the course meetings taking place at Loyola's oversea centers in Beijing and Rome.

Comprehensive Assessment / Capstone Project

The preparation of an electronic portfolio is required.

Continuous Enrollments

Master's students in international higher education are required to maintain the status of continuous enrollment during their program of studies. This means that students complete the cohort in the course sequence and time frame as defined.

Degree Conferral

While the commencement ceremony is every May, degrees can be conferred May, August, and December. Students must apply for graduation/degree conferral. Students should apply for graduation for the semester they anticipate completing all degree requirements. Failure to meet application deadlines may result in a delay of the conferral of the degree to the following semester. Applications for Degree Conferral are due:

* February 1 for August conferral

Candidates graduating in August are eligible to participate in the preceding May commencement ceremony in Chicago.

This is a scholarship for professionals seeking a career change to the field of education for students admitted to one of our master's or specialist programs.

Mooney Catholic Educator Scholarship
This is an endowed scholarship awarded to a School of Education Ed.D. student who will assume a school or district-level administrative leadership position in urban Catholic schools.

Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois (DFI) Fellowship
The goal of DFI is to increase the number of minority full-time tenure track faculty and staff at Illinois two- and four-year, public and private colleges and universities. Fellowships are available to qualified minority applicants who are Illinois residents and who demonstrate financial need.

Mooney Fellowship
This is an endowed fellowship awarded to a School of Education Master's or Ed.S. student earning an advanced degree in professional education with a commitment to urban environment.
