Course Content

The music curriculum offers a wide range of courses for the music major. It also has strong appeal to the general student, especially in the activities of the instrumental and vocal ensembles.

Students become familiar with the traditions of Western and non-Western music through theoretical analysis, research, performance, and historical survey. The curriculum fosters the development of the critical ability necessary to understand those traditions. Students experience the unique relationship between research and performance in music. Theoretical and practical courses that provide a sound academic background in music are available for those who intend to pursue graduate study, teach, or fulfill general education requirements.

From music theory to technique to conducting and arranging, the music curriculum offers a wide range of courses for the music major or the non-major who wishes to include music as part of his or her college experience. We offer a wide array of performance and participation opportunities, including:

  • symphonic winds
  • jazz esembles
  • recitals

Academic Requirements

To apply, your high school transcript should include the following:

  • Four (4) years of English;
  • Four (4) years of math including one year each of elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, and geometry;
  • Three (3) years of science with one year each of biological and physical science;
  • Three (3) years of social studies, including United States history;*
  • Two (2) years of a single second language.*

*Applicants missing this requirement will not be denied admission if they are otherwise admissible.
