Adult nursing is a challenging and worthwhile career that offers a wide range of roles caring for people and promoting their health. You will work with patients and their families supporting them through challenging situations. Adult nurses work with adults of all ages with a variety of health conditions. Communication skills are essential to allow patients at ease under pressurised and sometimes stressful situations, as is the capability to assess, scheme, realise and evaluate the care provided to each patient. You must be willing to take responsibility for someone else’s health and well-being, and demonstrate the compassion needed to assure a good nurse-patient relationship.

Requirements for candidates: English language requirements: IELTS 7.0 overall, with 6.5 in writing, and 7.0 in all other components. Health or science-related courses are desirable. Communication and interpersonal skills are decisive, as well as strong judgement, and being able to teach, consult and manage people.

Adult nurses usually work a standard 37.5 hours per week.

You could work in a variety of settings including hospital wards, outpatient units, patients' home and clinics. You'll be part of the multidisciplinary teams with other professionals such as occupational therapists, pharmacists, radiographers and healthcare assistants. Likewise, you’ll work closely with patients' families and carers. When you are fully qualified and have enough experience, you can also work as a nurse trainer or deliver health education, instead of carrying out hands-on clinical work.
