What is econometrics?
Econometrics is one of the branches of economics, which studies economic relationships with mathematical and statistical methods. Econometrics is often taught as a part of Economics curriculum, or as a separate study program.
Econometrics is divided into applied and theoretical econometrics. The aim of theoretical econometrics is statistical properties of assessments and tests, while applied econometrics works with the application of econometric methods for the evaluation of economic theories.
Econometrics (along with macro- and microeconomics) is also a part of economics theory.
Econometrics program structure
Undergraduate study programs in Econometrics usually include several core courses in econometrics, economics, mathematics and statistics. Usually students should also choose from a variety of other optional modules, such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, investments. Study program usually consists of lectures, seminars and workshops. Students are also required to complete one or several internships in business or finance organizations. Some universities encourage students to spend a year studying or training abroad. An undergraduate study program in Econometrics (whether it is BA or BSc) usually can be completed by passing final exams and/or submitting a dissertation.
Entry requirements for Econometrics applicants
Those who wish to apply for one of the Econometrics or related undergraduate study program need to hold excellent grades in Mathematics. Some universities also require high grades in Social Studies or English language, but high grades in Mathematics are the most important criteria for applying for Econometrics degree program.
