Description

Glasgow Caledonian University has a long track record in Dietetics in education, with the longest running Dietetics programme in the UK.

The BSc (Hons) Human Nutrition and Dietetics provides an in-depth understanding of nutrition and metabolism gained from a combination of studies in physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, food science plus psychology and sociology.

Students will find this course both enjoyable and challenging as they study the scientific basis of human health, assisting with the management of disease through diet.

The programme has a strong practical focus with a predominance of problem-based learning. This takes place not only in the classroom, but also in the Nutrition laboratory and clinical simulation lab as well as on placement.

Students are required to complete 1000 hours of clinical placement in order to be eligible to apply for registration with the Health Professions Council (HPC).

Our Dietetics programme was recently reapproved with an unprecedented seven commendations, which reflects the high standard of teaching of this subject at GCU.

We are proud of the high calibre of our graduates, which is reflected in the very positive feedback we get back from clinical placement providers and employers.

Most graduates seek employment in the NHS, specialising in areas such as paediatrics, nutritional support, oncology, renal, critical care and community dietetics. Dieticians can also move into research, work in the media, publishing, private practice and the food industry.
