Investment management, also known as asset management or fund management, is about managing money by investing it in a variety of asset classes including equities and bonds. During your course you will receive support and guidance to help you plan an effective strategy for your personal and professional development, whether you are looking to secure your first role in finance or management, or wanting take your career to the next level.

The full-time MSc in Investment Management is a one-year course that starts in September each year. During the course you will develop extensive expertise in a range of specialised areas such as:

  • Investment and portfolio management
  • Derivatives and financial risk management
  • International investments and emerging markets
  • Technical analysis and trading

You will also have the opportunity to complete a major research project, to help you apply what you have learnt in practice.

MSc in Investment Management students will be taught separately from the MSc Finance and Management students, although some of the modules across both courses will be the same.

The Masters in Investment Management course has been developed to produce practical, proactive specialists in investment management, so our teaching methods deliberately encourage the co-production of ideas and knowledge sharing, self-development and team working.

Our teaching methods include a diverse range of stimulating learning experiences, with emphasis placed on real-world challenges. Modules include a mix of:

You will also undertake an individual research project that will give you the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills you have learnt to a specific financial issue in your chosen organisation. Your progress throughout the course will be assessed through a combination of assignments, presentations, examinations and individual and group projects. This reinforces the emphasis we place on the application of learning and encourages you to find your own solutions to business issues.

The course will be supported by an electronic learning environment which will be the central repository for all information relating to the course and available to the students at all times. This will be supplemented by online module case packs.

Have a good standard of English The participative nature of the course demands a high oral ability and written work needs a strong business vocabulary. If English is not your first language, you must take one of the following:Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – a minimum score of 92 is required. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa.
