The main focus of the security industry is to prevent harm to people, property and the environment. Security professionals apply principles from disciplines such as engineering, education, psychology, physiology, law enforcement, health, wellness, physics, and management. They employ appropriate methods and techniques for loss prevention and damage control. Safety science is a 21st century term that refers to everything related to preventing accidents, disease, fires, explosions and other events that endanger people, property and the environment.
The program structure
The aim of the Master of Safety Science is to provide students with a sophisticated set of safety science-related knowledge, analysis and research skills that will allow them to become a safety leader and manage complex safety and investigation environments. Sudents will then have an opportunity to enhance skills further by choosing an advanced specialisation (major) including:
Risk Engineering.
Human Factors Engineering.
Accident Forensics.
Transport Safety Management.
Emergency Services Safety.
Air Safety Investigation.
Road Safety Investigation.
Rail Safety Investigation.
Industrial Accident Investigation.
Students will also study the following courses: Occupational Safety, which includes Human Factors, Ergonomics, etc.; Aviation Safety - Aviation Safety Management Systems, Aviation Human Factors; System Safety, Industrial Security, others.

Communicate effectively with top management or senior executives and cost justify interventions necessary to protect employees or community, property, and the environment.
Enhance management commitment to workplace improvements in safety and health by increasing management’s understanding of safety and health concerns.
Develop increased employee involvement in development of safety and health interventions through better understanding of the business ramifications and needs for safety and health.
Implement safety and health programs/interventions that optimize business and safety performance in unison.
Develop return of investment evaluations that demonstrate understanding for the financial and operational impacts of safety.
Effectively integrate occupational safety and health programs that enhance operational efficiency, productivity, and operational sustainability.
