Internationalization and the evolution of markets have created opportunities for companies to focus on marketing from a global perspective. Globalization, as a phenomenon of the 21st century, makes internationally oriented professions in demand. The International Marketing Program provides an opportunity to learn the complexity and diversity faced by marketers in a highly competitive and constantly evolving global market, using the latest marketing strategies, tools and methods. You will begin to build strategies that allow you to compete in the global market.
Studying abroad for a degree in international marketing will take between three and four years, with a master’s taking between one and two years of study. Students may also have the option of a year in industry (also known as a placement year), or work experience arranged through the university’s career services. It is commonly practiced to take an internship in order to implement knowledge.
Most of the time studying for a marketing degree will be spent in lectures, alongside personal study time, and discussing your learning in seminars and work groups. Where possible a university will strive to use real world situations and practical tasks to improve your skills and career prospects. Case study is spread worldwide, making an accent on critical thinking.
The exact structure and content of a marketing program will vary due to the country and the university students are studying in. Some of the modules or electives that may count towards a marketing degree will surround topics such as:
Research;
Statistics;
Consumer behavior;
Management;
Communication;
Branding;
Ethics;
Law.
Focusing on marketing within an international context, students will gain awareness of the global, cultural, social, economic and ethical professional environment within which marketers now operate, and the connections with other functional business areas needed for overall corporate success. Marketing programs provide a comprehensive curriculum covering developing an international marketing strategy, global strategic management, managing brands, developing products, and implementing, coordinating and controlling the international marketing effort. Acknowledging the importance of digital techniques and social media marketing, students usually have access to different labs, including a digital marketing lab, which is set up to mimic a creative agency.
Students will gain hands-on experience working on live client briefs from external marketers, analyzing performance and customer research, as well as using relevant internet-based technologies for marketing. Previously, for example, students can work on a project for a small brewery or local designer to develop a marketing plan to sell its products and gain more target audience.
Students graduate with the knowledge, skills and capabilities to pursue careers worldwide and with international organizations in areas such as strategic marketing planning, market research, marketing communications and brand management.
