Requirements
Admissions
For research study within our Department of Mathematical Sciences, we normally require a good Masters degree, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline. A well developed research proposal is also essential.
If English is not your first language, then we will require you to have IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.
English Language Requirements
IELTS band: 6
IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa.
The IELTS test is most widely accepted by universities and is also accepted for Tier 4 visas to the UK- learn more.
Funding
Undergraduates:
We charge £9,000 a year for all our undergraduate courses and have developed a comprehensive package of bursaries and scholarships to ensure all of our students have the potential to succeed, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Tuition fees have also been abolished for students spending a full year abroad studying or on an employer placement. This opportunity has been introduced on the majority of our courses as we believe this experience enhances your learning and widens your opportunities upon graduation. Note this only applies to students on four-year degrees.
Our main scholarships and bursaries for students registering for the 2014-15 academic year are outlined below as are those for students who started in 2012-13 and those joining us in 2013-14.
You can also use our scholarship finder to find out about funding opportunities that are available.
