What is Nutrition and Dietetics?

Nutrition and Dietetics is a science (a branch of Medicine) which studies human nutrition issues. The main emphasis of Nutrition and Dietetics is focused on the nutrition of sick people.

Nutrition and Dietetics is based on the fact that despite the general rules of nutrition are the same for all people, nutrition should be selected based on the individual characteristics of each person. Nutrition and dietetics of the sick person is firstly aimed to reduce harm to the sick body caused by  unhealthy diet, as well as to restore the metabolism caused by the disease. Nutrition and Dietetics can not be used as a separate medicine, but it complements usual medical practices and speeds up the recovery process.

Program structure

Applicants wishing to complete undergraduate education in Nutrition and Dietetics can choose either Associate or Bachelor degree. All study programs in Nutrition and Dietetics include classroom education (lectures and seminars in Food Science, Nutrition, Human Medicine) and practical lessons. Students will need to complete an internship in various areas related to nutrition - for example, food service, medical support.

Some universities offer online undergraduate and graduate study programs in Nutrition and Dietetics.

Entry requirements for Nutrition and Dietetics applicants

Those who wish to apply for a Nutrition and Dietetics undergraduate study program need to hold excellent grades in Biology and sometimes Chemistry. Sometimes basic knowledge in Food Technology is also required, but usually the admission rules for Nutrition and Dietetics degrees are the similar to the admission rules for all Medicine study programs.

Applicants for Nutrition and Dietetics (and other relevant) study programs need to demonstrate their interest in this area with a motivation letter. You can find our how to write a great motivation letter for a medical department by reading this article (in Russian). 

Since all study programs which can be found on our website are taught in English, language proficiency is always mandatory. Those applicants whose native language is other from English need to provide the results of TOEFL or IELTS (or other equivalent certification).
