Why Choose This Programme?
There is a growing demand worldwide for highly trained graduates in the field of clinical nutrition and health for positions in the health services, local government and food industries. Countries all over the world recognise the important role nutrition makes in improving health and preventing disease and have prioritised Nutrition and Diet as a key component of health improvement strategies. The MSc in Clinical Nutrition and Health is designed to address this field of priority. It is aimed at medical doctors, graduates of life sciences (physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, health psychology, food science) and degree level health professionals who want to improve their knowledge and skills of clinical nutrition. It will be of particular interest to overseas students for whom this specialist field of study is not available at masters level in their country of origin and UK based students interested in developing their knowledge and skills in nutrition. International organisations responsible for improving health on a global basis e.g. World Health Organisation, UNICEF, Food and Agriculture Organisation have identified nutritional health as central to improving health at all levels, including: at the individual level e.g. with HIV, chronic disease, predisposition to chronic disease, and at a population level e.g. health improvement in children, for reproduction, healthier workforce, reducing the burden of obesity and CVD. Hence nutrition (clinical and public health) is a high priority for improving health in most countries of the world. This explains the high level of interest in studying nutrition on a global basis. Most countries health plans have identified increasing their capacity of the nutrition workforce, but few have the resources to provide this in country above under-graduate level.
