The currency in Germany is the Euro. Many other currencies (in 2012) have appreciated in value against the Euro which means that Germany offers good value for your money.
Compared to other European countries, Germany offers excellent value for money in accommodation, food, services and entertainment. The price of food, accommodation, clothing and cultural activities is close to the European average, but below the average found in the major cities of France, Italy or the UK.
The German government calculates that a student needs around € 800 per month to live comfortably. Surveys among international students in Germany have shown that some can live quite happily on € 600 per month.
Some prices in Germany:
Health insurance is mandatory in Germany. All international students are required to have sufficient health insurance for the complete duration of their studies in Germany. Due to IUBH regulations you can only be enroled if you can prove health insurance coverage.
German public health insurance
Students can choose from special offers for students under the age of 31 in Germany. These insurance plans are offered at a rate of ~79,- € per month. Although they offer slightly different services, they all cover medical treatment and partially cover medication. Due to cost-saving programmes in the public health insurance, coverage has been reduced and you may have to pay for some medical treatments yourself.
Applying for German health insurance has to be done upon arrival in Germany.
Exception: If you are more than 30 years old you can no longer take advatage of the favourable student rates offered by the public health insurance carriers. In this case you can take advantage of our exclusive offer for international IUBH students, please see below.
Due to a special contract with the insurance company Care Concept, negotiated by IUBH and a private insurance company, IUBH students have an exclusive offer which we recommend.
