Study Programs in Germany

German education systen is often considered as one of the best in Europe, especially in techical areas. It is also one of the cheapest countries for international students: in most of regions students do not have to pay any tuition fees in state universities (or this fee is very moderate). This fact attracts thousand of internation students from all over the world.


There are currently 387 universities in Germany and they are divided into three major groups:

  • Universities or similar institutions (110)
  • Universities of applied sciences (221)
  • Colleges of art and music (56)

Bachelor programs in Germany have several basic requirement for prospective studens: they have to complete high school education, to pass final exams successfully and to hold a language certificate at list at a level B2 for a foundation year program or C1 for the first year of university studies. Bachelor programs in Germany last for 3 or 4 years, depending on the program chosen. Study programs are mostly in German, but some universities have programs in English as well.

For those who don't speak German it would be easier to find a master program in English. Prospective students have to provide two certificates: bachelor degree certificate and a language certificate at a level C1. Other specific requirements will vary depending on the course. The duration of master programs is 2 years. 

German universities offer study programs in various fields, including technical and humanitarian specializations. However, Germany is especially famous for its bachelor's and master's degrees in Physics, Computer Science, History and Philosophy.
